The box before the click
Big money choices get slippery when they live in a tab you can close. Draw a box with five lines: what I am deciding, what it costs now, what it costs later, what I am afraid of, and what would make this a mistake. Fill it before you click, not after you need to defend yourself.
The box is allowed to be short. It is not allowed to be written by the ad you just watched. If your sentence sounds like the ad, close the tab and rewrite it in the words you use for groceries.
A pretend example. Pretend Ren almost joined a 49-a-month tool. The box said: deciding whether to pay 49, later cost is 588 a year, afraid of looking slow at work, a mistake if Ren does not open it weekly. Ren waited two days and the urge shrank.
Try this. Fill one box for a choice you have not made yet. Include the later cost.
