Why charts peel off

A chart peels off when it pretends every week is the same size. People do not get bored of budgets. They get embarrassed when Tuesday does not match the drawing. Build the chart with a smudge line: a small amount that is allowed to be messy.

The smudge line is not a secret spending spree. It is the honest gap between the plan and a real Tuesday. If you hide it, the whole chart becomes a lie by the 12th. If you print it, the chart can survive being human.

A pretend example. Pretend Nia planned 400 for groceries. By day 12 she had used 260 because friends visited. A chart with a 40 smudge line bent. A chart with zero smudge got abandoned, and the rest of the month went unwatched.
