A quilt is a plan for pretend money split into squares with jobs. A grow square is allowed to be jumpy. A steady square is there to be dull. A cash square is there so you are not forced to sell a jumpy square on a bad day. One square that is your whole quilt is not a mix. It is a bet wearing a blanket.
This is classroom language for diversification, not a product list and not advice to buy any fund, stock, or coin. You can draw the quilt with paper coins. Real investing, if you choose it later, needs rules in your country and often a qualified adviser. The drawing still helps.
A pretend example. Pretend quilt: 50 grow, 30 steady, 20 cash, out of 100 paper coins. The jobs are written under the squares. 'Whatever did well last year' is not a job description.
